Veterans Day celebrations will be held twice in Elmira: the first at Wisner Park at 11 a.m., and the second at the Woodlawn National Cemetery at noon. Additionally, local eateries and shops offer free meals and discounts to veterans. Free or reduced lunches are available on Black Friday at national chains such as APS, EBEs, Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, Texas Roadhouse, and TGI Fridays. As we approach Veterans Day, we at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens want to honor the veterans who have served our country. Veterans will receive free admission and a 20% membership discount from November 4 through November 11, respectively.

This year, dozens of large businesses and retailers are giving veterans and active-duty service members discounts and freebies. Here is a list of some of the events that will take place on November 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To all veterans and active duty personnel, 

  • Little Caesars is offering free lunch combos. Every veteran or active duty service member who orders a beverage at Hooters will receive a free meal from the restaurant's special menu.
  • All day long, Starbucks is offering free tall cup coffee to any veteran or active duty member. 
  • The entire day on Friday, Krispy Kreme is offering free donuts and coffee to all veterans and active duty personnel. Veterans and active duty personnel can receive a complimentary dinner from Olive Garden's special menu, including its never-ending breadsticks, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday is a free donut and coffee day for active duty personnel.
  • From 11 AM to 4 PM, Olive Garden will give veterans and active duty personnel who visit a complimentary dinner from a special menu, which includes an endless supply of breadsticks. 
  • Veterans and active duty personnel can get free cole slaw and shrimp fries from Red Lobster, two of Walt's favorite foods.

With the purchase of every bagel, veterans receive a free medium, hot, or iced coffee. Veterans, active military personnel, and their spouses are all given a free hot fruit coffee from Caribou Coffee on Veterans Day, according to Casey.
